With 35 years of experience serving people with disabilities, I have dedicated my career to helping individuals achieve greater independence, confidence, and success. My background includes 18 years in assistive technology, during which I earned my Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification through RESNA. I have also served as a state surveyor for the Tennessee Department of Mental Retardation Services, now the Division of Disability and Aging, and as a national consultant with FOCUS Teaching Systems, helping residential service agencies address significant compliance challenges and meet federal standards. Through this consulting work, our team successfully helped every agency we served avoid closure and continue providing services to the people who depended on them.
My passion for this work began with a desire to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. Throughout my career, I have witnessed individuals move from feeling hopeless to achieving goals they once thought were impossible, often with the help of assistive technology. I have seen technology open doors to education, meaningful employment, relationships, and greater independence. These experiences have reinforced my belief that every person deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.
After spending 18 years working in assistive technology at Signal Centers, I joined STAR Center, where I continue to pursue the work that has shaped my life and career. I believe that the people I have served have taught me just as much as I have taught them, and their determination continues to inspire me. Helping people with disabilities discover their abilities, overcome barriers, and build fulfilling lives is more than a profession to me. It is my calling and my life's work.
